August Meeting – Wednesday 2nd August

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday August 2nd at 7.45pm in the village hall.

Our speaker this evening is Dr Francis Burroughes

Can You Play Jerusalem?

Francis has spoken to many hundreds of the Ladies of the W.I. across the West Country. Most of the meetings have been memorable for the welcome and the hospitality he has received. However . . . sometimes the unexpected happens. Here are some of the funniest moments from the life of a speaker ‘on the W.I. circuit’. He promises strict anonymity!

Lecturer and after-Dinner Speaker, for W.Is., Rotary & Round Tables, U3As.,and special interest groups and societies. Francis is now retired, but in his long career he has been a school-teacher, and director of several companies. In his spare time he has been a church organist for over fifty years, a keen flower arranger, and a conductor of numerous choral societies, operatic societies, and musical groups. He is an acknowledged authority on antique glass, and is often requested to provide samples for television programmes, or give his expert advice. He has many years experience as a public speaker, and is always complimented on the fact that he is clearly heard at the back of a large hall, even without a microphone!

Please come along for what should be a very entertaining evening.

The Sales Table theme this month is ‘A Good Summer Read’, so please bring along your books. Please remember to check at the end of the evening and take your unsold books home with you.

We look forward to seeing you all – old and new members.

Pre meeting invitation

Come along to the Village Hall at 7.0pm on Wednesday for a presentation to Kay and Alan Taylor

As you know, we have had a collection for Kay Taylor who will be moving away from Sutton Benger after 40 years to live in Suffolk.  We will be holding a presentation to Kay and Alan before the meeting tonight.  You are invited to come along at 7pm for a short presentation before our WI meeting starts.  Members of the Over 60’s Club have also contributed and will be invited as well.

July Meeting – Wednesday 5th July

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday July 5th at 7.45pm in the village hall.

Our topic for the evening is ‘Dogs for Good – formerly dogs for the disabled and therapy dogs’.

The Sales Table theme this month is ‘Summertime’. Please bring along anything Summery – garden things, food things, beach things, picnic things etc. Just use your imagination but please remember to check at the end of the evening and take your unsold items home with you.

We look forward to seeing you all – old and new members.

June meeting – Wednesday 7th June

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday June 7th at 7.45pm in the village hall.

Our speaker for the evening is Marcus Dancer who will give a talk entitled ‘Scented Plants throughout the Year.’  Marcus has a nursery in Fordingbridge where he specialises in Clematis but also grows and sells a variety of climbing plants.  A committee member recently heard him speak at a local gardening club meeting and she said he was very good.  He will be bringing along a selection of plants for sale so, with this in mind, we will not have a WI Sales Table this month.

Members are reminded that there is still room on the trip to the Maud Heath Vineyard on 19th July.  The cost is £15 and this covers a tour of the vineyard followed by wine tasting and nibbles.  A coach has been arranged to take us there so everybody can enjoy a glass of wine.  The £15 will be collected at the meeting.

Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday.
